Running back Shawn Wara had a huge game Friday as Heritage improved to 2-0 on the season with a 42-35 victory at Saginaw.
Wara rushed 22 times for 183 yards and three touchdowns and also caught 5 passes for 132 yards for the Coyotes, who are 2-0 for the first time since 2015. Quarterback Bryce Gilchrist threw for 254 yards and 2 touchdowns.
The Heritage defense was led in tackling by Norman Nyamandi (12 tackles), Aidan Castaneda (11 tackles) and Anthony Collins (10 tackles).
Heritage begins District 5-5A Division I play this week when it takes on Lone Star on Thursday (Oct. 8) at 7 p.m. at Toyota Stadium.
